Positioned high on a remote hillside in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and adjacent to a Grade II listed farmhouse, the building provides a wood working space in a wonderful setting. Inspired by simple rural vernacular design, the workshop has some thoughtful contemporary details and sits sensitively within its setting.

Located on a farm on the edge of the beautiful Northumberland National Park just west of the town of Rothbury, these ‘Tiny Cabins’ took design cues from some crinkly tin sheds found on the site to create shelters with character and patina, and a feeling of being ‘home on the range’………. internally a clean modern finish provides a cosy interior and the huts were carefully designed and placed to make the most of the sun path, wonderful views to Simonside and, of course, the stars….!

With a design inspired by the simple rugged construction of the nearby old Ferryman’s Hut, the Shoreside Huts in Alnmouth sit right on the beach on the Northumberland Heritage Coast, a short walk from this wonderful village. Those who follow Sōtō Zen describe it as a Serene Reflection Meditation tradition, and so the design provides a simple but thoughtful shelter to practice meditation; offering different opportunities for sitting and walking meditation whilst considering the changeable (and often harsh) weather.

The Kidlandlee estate sits high on the slopes of the Cheviot Hills in the Northumberland National Park, not far from the Scottish border. The site consists of several wonderful off grid holiday let units (designed by Elliott Architects as conversions and extensions to existing buildings), which also include four simple, timber clad Cabins. This is a remote and wild landscape, so if you like getting away from it all, we cant recommend it enough!
