Due to the success of the existing coffee shop, the clients required an internal remodel and new extension to accommodate facilities to meet their growing demands as a business. The original cafe was located in a Grade II Listed building which was previously renovated from a farm outbuilding in 1986. It was our aim to approach the design with sympathy and respect to the existing building’s fabric. We carefully designed junctions between old and new with the overall aim that the historical development of the building could be
clearly read.

The new flat roofed, slate clad extension is intentionally modern in form and detail to contrast with the existing building. Large glazed screens allow a glimspe to the existing material of the building further strengthening the connection between old and new. The internal remodel comprised of a redesign to the existing layout for operational ease with better acoustic performance in mind.
