The site lies in the open countryside in the beautiful north Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty. The design was inspired by local agricultural barns and is modest in scale and carefully considered in position and orientation in relation to the house and gardens.

The approach was to create a utilitarian and functional building, but one that is well crafted in its detail and composed in its setting. The facades provides a protective frontage for security and to create the feel of an agricultural barn, whilst also allowing glimpses of the views over the meadow and along the approach track.
