This scheme for nine houses in Great Whittington, Northumberland called for a sensitive approach in order to meet the client’s requirements whilst also being considerate of the conservation area context and the impact on the surrounding community. The site also lies on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall.

The approach was to design a street which would encourage community interaction and make spaces to make the most of the beautiful rural setting. Each house is different in plan and elevational treatment, yet the group work in together to create a coherent street, as well as sitting in harmony with the existing village.
