RIBA Awards shortlist for Farrell Centre

We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the RIBA Awards 2025 for the Farrell Centre in Newcastle city centre!

Working for Newcastle University and in collaboration with Space Architects, the project transforms the Grade II listed Claremont buildings into an ‘Urban Room’ for the city. With support from Sir Terry Farrell, the centre seeks to engage the local community about our built environment – its past, present and future, and brings together anyone interested in the evolution of our cities and region.

The design focused on creating a welcoming and accessible environment, providing flexible space for activities, events and exhibitions. Whilst sensitively considering and accommodating alongside the historic character, the design makes significant adaptations to accommodate the new use whilst introducing energy and colour to energise the future of the facility.

The Farrell Centre is an ambitious project which celebrates history and the potential for architecture to engage and serve its community, and since its completion has proven to be a huge success thanks to the dedicated team who are doing great work to realise the centre’s potential. We are honoured to have the projects quality and worth acknowledged through the shortlisting in the RIBA Awards, and want to thank the brilliant team and everyone involved for helping to bring this vision to life, and we look forward to seeing the centre continue to flourish.
